HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

2009

For the past two (2) years, the World is dealing with a recession without precedent without an end in sight. Particular in the United Estates of America, the recession has a devastating effect. Thousand of people lost their jobs, foreclosures are at all time high, and many have a tough time to provide for their daily basic necessities.

Facing such calamities, many people would probably like to set an additional Day of Complaining instead of Thanksgiving. Hardship can be a gratitude buster for Christians and non-Christians alike. However, the fact that we are still breathing is a good reason enough to be grateful to God.

David was running for his life when he wrote one of his Psalms of gratitude: “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” Ps.34:1 When we translate Thanksgiving into “thanksliving” we give thanks in all times, in all seasons, for all things.

We ought to be able to give thanks because for the believer thanksgiving is the first response of a grateful heart.
Hans Selye, who is considered the father of stress studies, has said that: “Gratitude produces more positive emotional energy than any other attitude in life.”

A thankful heart enjoys the blessing twice – when it receives the blessing and when it remembers the blessing. In everything give thanks because thanksgiving positively counteracts and challenges the damaging and destructive emotions in the stressful lives we live.

Happy Thanksgiving!
