Day of Complaining – Day of Lamenting
I Thessalonians 5: 18
Living in a world of ungratefulness, many people would not mind having an official day of: “Day of Complaining – Day of Lamenting” instead of Thanksgiving.
However, if any nation ought to be thankful to God and grateful for his goodness, it ought to be America. If any group of people in America ought to be thankful and grateful to God, it ought to be Haitians living in this land. If any group of Haitians has no reason to be grateful, the Christians ought to have an attitude of gratitude.
In this wonderful profound verse of Scripture, Paul gives us three principles concerning this attitude of gratitude (Thanksgiving) that every child of God ought to have:
- Thanksgiving is always to be expressed. We are commanded to “Give thanks.” Gratitude is not an option. It is a sin to be ungrateful when we consider all the benefits received from God.
- Thanksgiving is to be expansive. We are commanded to give thanks in “all circumstances.” It would be very easy if we were asked to thank God in “most thing” or in “good things.” But Paul says we are to thank God in “all circumstances.”
- Thanksgiving is always to be expected. We are to give thanks in all things for “this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” The situation that you are going through presently is not unknown by God or out of his control. Can you trust God enough to do his will in your life? Thanksgiving in the midst of trials and tribulations is a mark of maturing Christian.
The month of November is set aside each year in US to count our blessings and to give thanks to God for all his benefits. As Christians, let us translate Thanksgiving into “Thanksliving” where we give thanks in all times, in all seasons and for all things. Amen!
We invite you to join the Redemption Baptist Church for a week of praise, worship, and Thanksgiving. We will begin on Sunday the 13th thru the 20th of November. Service will start at 7:00 PM each night. The final celebration will be on Sunday November 20st at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Peguy Justafort from New York will be the messenger for the entire week.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
